Because people like fighters

So..yesterday I resumed my duty. It was after 10 days sick leaves. Some really well wishers advised me to have more rest. They said even without me work is not going to stop. That I know. Mother nature and god has created such a system and have created so talented persons that there is no chance that system will stop one day. World is full of options. So why I resumed duty even when I am not so fit and well?
Well, it was totally for myself. I don't like to sit idle. I have worked even when my father was in last stage. I have written columns when he was being treated in hospital in Nadiad far away from Bhavnagar (at that time I was working with Saurastra Samachar). When my mother was very serious I went Divya Bhaskar for my work for some hours and during that little period she had heart attack and I lost her permanently. I like being fighter. I am fighting with my health. I am fighting with myself. I know people also like fighters even they may had lose. That's why we remember Poras more than Sikandar. We remember Rana Pratap more than Akbar. Narendra Modi is also popular more for his fighter spirit. Congress party is also like phoenix.When in 1998 Congress had lost badly, in 1999 Sonia Gandhi held panchmarhi conclave and then in her leadership Congress again won in four states. RSS was banned for three or four times. But every time it got stronger and stronger. And how can we forget Amitabh Bachchan? He is always fighting against his health. And he is working. It is said that even god helps those who help themselves.
But for whom I am writing this? For me!

Injustice to journalists!

For friends who are not in media, we journalists working on desk or in reporting field almost work for 24 hours, in every season, be it scorching summer heat, extreme rain or very cold weather. We bring you news from each and every corner from the world. We bring injustice on surface. But it is very sad that there is no big and fruitful platform where we, Gujarati journalists can raise our voice, we can present our concern. (There are few media groups in Gujarat, but they have become editors club) I am sure many of you must not be aware of news that for journalists,one Majithia wage board was formed to review pay structure for journalists and supreme court dismissed all writ petitions moved by newspaper managements. Now according to this board, Newspapers management have to implement from effect of 11 November, 2011. But all major groups are using delaying tactics and also trying pressure tactics. One brave journalist and chief reporter of Divya Bhaskar, Prashant Dayal denied to sign the paper for not accepting Majithia wage board. For this 'gustakhi' he is said to be transferred to Dhanbad (came in light from film 'Gangs Of Wasseypur).
I don't know about other regional journalism, but I know Gujarati journalism. Some 10 or 15 years ago it was mission and many of us still work with mission spirit, so we accepted this field of work and still we work with passion. We take low salary, some times and in some organisation, there is no basic facilities such as canteen, no pure water drinking facility, no urinal in good condition. No recess/break. No overtimes/No bonus (if bonus is given, it is given from salary). If we change job, salary is not given, pf is held. Our week offs are cancelled frequently. If there are big events, we work from morning to night, but no snack/food is provided! Now many owners of newspaper have made it pure business. But still there is so much exploitation. It is sad and shame for us that few of us have become hand of management and for their personal gain, they try to exploit and damage many journalist.

I don't know after writing this what will be my fate, May be i am barred from working by all Gujarati newspapers, but I think at this moment, I can't be silent. If we can write against governments, police, courts, administration, if we can fight for injustice made to public, why don't we come along and fight for our own rights? This is not 'Unionbaazi', but why there is no unity among Gujarati journalist? I could have written this small article in Gujarati also (as I have raised issue of Gujarati jouralist) but I have written in English so that it can reach to other non Gujarati friends also.
It is said that Satyamev Jayate, will it be real?

Journey of news

I completed two years successfully as News Editor in Gujarat Samachar on this 16th August. It was like dream came true as working in newspaper which I have been reading since teenage. It was 16th august when I joined Gujarat Samachar. Though I had short experience as incharge of front page in Saurastra Samachar it was really big responsibility given by Shree Sreyansh Shah as looking after front page and other national-international news pages of Numero Uno newspaper. From day one my test begun and test paper was hard as Anna Hazare movement was beginning on that day.
Two years were full of events such as -withdrawing support by Trinamool congress, Ramdev’s agitation in Ramlila maidan, sensational exposures by Kejriwal, president election of Bharat/USA, bomb blasts in Delhi/hyderabad, voting on FDI, Gujarat/UP/Himachal/Karnataka election, scams such as coal gate/telecom/railway bribery/alleged army revolt after Makar Sankranti, conflict between army head V K Singh and defence minister A K Antony, Mumbai blasts 1993 case order by supreme court, execution of death penalty to Kasab/Afzal Guru, China incursion, Pakistan army aggression, autonomy of CBI (famous observation of supreme court- caged parrot), conflict between supreme and parliament on disqualification of convicted legislators, fight between Gujarat govt and governor on appointment of lokayukta, emergence of Narendra Modi/Rahul Gandhi as superior leader in BJP/Congress, fall of indian rupee, Europe economic crisis (Greece,  Cyprus, Britain), Higgs Boson particle confirmation, Rover Mars mission, disasters such as Sandy in US, Uttarakhand floods, earthquake in Sikkim…and so on.
Witnessed demises of Steve Jobs, Dev Anand (I got byline for article on Dev which is rare in Gujarat Samachar) , Yash Chopra, Rajesh Khanna, Jagjit Singh, Dara Singh, Pt. Ravishankar, Pran.
It was most momerable movement for me when I got pet on back by Shree Sreyansh Shah for special pages sp. for Higgs Boson page and Pran.
I feel very much happy when Gujarat Samachar exclusively made lead story of Pranav Mukherjee declaring as president candidate (even when Congress was thinking over Hamid Ansari) and decision of announcement of Telangana as separate state.
There were ofcourse underestimates by me. At first instance,  I could not imagine Kingfisher airlines crisis and Uttarakhand flood would blow out of proportion.
Journey of great learning and  satisfaction is still on. Very much happy for contributing like squirrel in Gujarat Samachar’s success.
